What do you do if you can't find a candidate for a certain position?

As a recruiter,

What do you do if you are stuck hiring for a certain position and cannot find a suitable candidate?

I usually:

  1. Headhunt
  2. Consider alternative sourcing channels
  3. Talk to the hiring manager and recommend finding a candidate that can be trained to reach the required skill set

What would you do? Have you ever been stuck with a position and how did you fill it?


Also, you can lower the minimum requirements or swap the education with years of experience or vice versa.
For example, if you are looking for master’s degree holder with 2 years, you can swap that with Bachelor’s degree and 4 years.
some candidates don’t apply if they don`t meet the minimum requirements, and these could be the ones we are looking for, doing swaps and adjusting the requirements may help us a lot.
